Why React?

I have been programming for 35 years. I do not claim to be an expert, in fact I am far from it. I know there is always more to learn, and there are millions out there with a deeper knowledge than me about almost every aspect of programming. But I enjoy it, and that’s why I do it. I love solving problems and I love making things work. There have been times in my life when I haven’t done any programming for years, and others when I have done it every day and hated it. The hate was largely driven by various combinations of JavaScript, jQuery and MVC. Also, external components (paid for and free) with sketchy documentation used to drive me insane. I have spent many hours trying to make something work, when it would have been quicker to write my own component (but I did not realise before I started). And then came React. OK, so React has been around for years, and I wasn’t terribly keen on the earlier implementations of it. But now, I am a complete convert. It has reignited a fire in me, a rediscovered passion for programming.

I started programming when I was 11 years old, on an Amstrad CPC 464. When my parents chose a computer for my sister and me, we only had one TV in the house, so they didn’t want it to be monopolised by two children playing games and idly wasting their time.
